Nobel Prize–winning German physicist (1858–1947) who pioneered the understanding of quantum theory. ALS in German, signed “M. Planck,” one page on the correspondence side of a 5.75 x 4 postal card, March 14, 1943. Planck writes to the Reverend Parson D. Priebe. In full (translated): “I am deeply moved reading your memorandum of the 11th of this month addressing the members of our congregation. Would I have been in Berlin, I most certainly would have attended today’s service in our house of worship. Since I am not, I can only join you in my thoughts to listen to your kind words. Just the same, I want to express in retrospect my deep gratitude for all the spiritual guidance given to our family during these difficult times.” In fine condition, with card toned and brittle, vertical fold with partial separation (away from signature), and small ink smudge.
