Description

London pays tribute to one of the significant Bohemian poets

Signed book: The Testimony of The Suns and Other Poems by George Sterling. San Francisco: W. E. Wood, 1903. Hardcover, 5.5 x 8, 142 pages. Signed and inscribed on the first free end page, “Dear Mr. Harrison, Find herein the biggest, truest poet to-day on the Pacific Coast. Jack London, Jan. 5, 1904.” George Sterling was a poet who became a significant figure in Bohemian literary circles in northern California in the first quarter of the 20th century, and in the development of the artists' colony in Carmel. He was close friends with Ambrose Bierce, Jack London, and Clark Ashton Smith, and mentor to Robinson Jeffers. In very good condition, with irregular toning to signed page, not detracting from the large signature, light surface wear to covers and some bumps to cover corners and spine just a touch loose. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
