Description

Two signed photos from modern Japan’s most celebrated author

Influential Japanese writer who committed hara-kiri to protest the Westernization and military weakness of postwar Japan. His reactionary views, private “army,” and homosexuality made him one of the most controversial public figures in Japan and one of the most enigmatic geniuses of modern literature. Lot of two items: pearl-finish 3.75 x 5.5 photo, a striking, handsome chest-length portrait, signed and dated in red felt tip,”Yukio Mishima, 1966.9.20”; and a paperstock 2.25 x 3 portrait of a younger Mishima affixed to a white 5 x 3 card, signed in fountain pen on the card, “Yukio Mishima.” Accompanied by the original engraved envelope addressed in Mishima’s hand. In fine condition, with poor-to-moderate contrast to signature on first photo due to dark background. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
