In 1858, Dr. Squibb founded a chemical and pharmaceutical laboratory in Brooklyn. In 1892, it became E.R. Squibb & Sons. Today, Bristol-Myers Squibb is the third largest pharmaceutical company in the United States, with $16.7 billion in revenues in 1997. DS signed “E.R. Squibb,” one page, 8.5 x 7, Edward R. Squibb, M.D., Manufacturer of Standard Medicinal Preparations, Brooklyn, N.Y. letterhead, April 10, 1869. Partly printed receipt for several items sold to Dr. Brent [?]. Items sold by Squibb include a walnut case, locks, lettering drawer, letter and “foolscap” paper, ink, pen, pen rack, bucket, a dozen towels, rubber cloth, goblets and plates, totalling $126.04. In very good to fine condition, with a uniform block of toning to left, narrow strip of toning right of center, neither of which effect legibility or the signature in the least, and a revenue stamp in left margin.
