American artist (1854–1931) best known for his illustrations for Harper’s Weekly, St. Nicholas, the Washington Post, and other publications. He served as staff artist for the New York Herald for nearly twenty years. Beautiful original ink and wash illustration of a sad young man in a tam o’shanter sitting on a large log as a rich couple drives by in a horse-drawn carriage, on an off-white 13 x 9 sheet, signed in ink at lower right, “W. A. Rogers.” Attractively matted and framed to an overall size of 19.5 x 20.5. Accompanied by an unsigned copy of Rogers’ 1922 autobiography, A World Worth While. In fine condition, with light toning and a touch of soiling at edges. R&R COA.
