In 1774 the Continental Congress appointed him a Commissioner of Indian Affairs in order to secure a treaty at the council at Albany. He was elected to the Congress in 1775. Wolcott was not very active in Congress. He was more concerned with military affairs and suffered a bout with serious illness in 1776. He was not present for the occasion of the Declaration, but signed it some time later. Handwritten endorsement on the bottom of a one page 6.5 x 8 partially printed legal document dated February 8, 1786. Wolcott writes, “Two shilling duty paid certified and signed by Oliver Wolcott Ass[ociate] J[udge].” Walcott also signs on the docketing on reverse, “O. Wolcott.” In very good condition, with several horizontal folds, scattered light toning and soiling, several small tape repairs on reverse and a few slight separations along folds.
