A superb letter from Mrs. James Garfield, widowed seven years earlier, to Caroline Harrison, wife of newly minted Republican presidential candidate (and ultimate victor) Benjamin Harrison. In full: “The nomination of Mr. Harrison for President gives me real pleasure. The campaign that elected his Grand-father was the first that I remember and this nomination brings back the memory of my first political enthusiasm. My sons and daughters join me in congratulations to you and to your husband.” In fine condition, with usual mailing folds, mild soiling, and a few small tape remnants to reverse. R&R COA.
