Description

Heisman-era letter from Les Horvath

A starter in 1941 and 1942 at Ohio State, Horvath then graduated and entered the School of Dentistry. Because of the World War II manpower shortage, the Big 10 in 1944 decided to allow freshmen to play, and also granted an extra year of eligibility to students who hadn’t been able to play as freshman. That allowed Horvath to return to the team, and he again became the starting tailback and won the Heisman Trophy. ALS, one page, 5.5 x 7.25, no date. Nice letter to a collector. In part, “Truly sorry I took so long in returning the information you wanted, but I returned from the coast late & have been busy with dental school work…I think you have a interesting & worthy hobby.” Accompanied by a vintage 5 x 7 photo of Horvath in his football uniform, bearing a printed signature. In fine condition, with expected folds and mounting remnants to each edge. COA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
