Vintage sepia matte-finish 6.25 x 4 photo of President Wilson and his secretary Joseph P. Tumulty in his office, loosely affixed to a 9 x 7 photographer’s mount, signed in fountain pen on the mount beneath his image. Also signed by Tumulty beneath his image. In very good condition, with silvering to the darker areas of the image. After his admission to the bar, Tumulty practiced law in Jersey City (1902–08) and served in the New Jersey assembly (1907–10). Tumulty supported Woodrow Wilson for the governorship of New Jersey in 1910 and spent the remainder of his public life as secretary to Wilson during the latter's gubernatorial (1911–13) and presidential (1913–21) careers. Initially Wilson relied heavily on him in matters of politics and patronage. Tumulty was the author of Woodrow Wilson as I Knew Him (1921). R&R COA.
