Puzzled President? Jackson writes in puzzlement over an officer’s refusal to accept a commission into the Ordnance Corps

LS as president signed “A. Jackson,” one page, 8 x 10, October 25, 1832. Letter to Secretary of War Lewis Cass. In full, “The President presents his respects to the Secretary of War and requests that he will cause a report to be made to him of the real situation of the office in the ordnance corps to which Maj. Wade was nominated at the last session of Congress. It is reported to the President that Majr. Wade has declined accepting the appointment, and that the office is open.” Boldly signed at the conclusion in black ink by Jackson. Reverse bears an integral address panel addressed to Cass. In fine condition, with moderate folds, a partial separation along one horizontal fold and seal remnant on reverse. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
