Justice Burton recommends “The Story of the Place - - Where First and A Streets Formerly Met at What is Now the Site of the Supreme Court Building”

Terrific lot of twenty-five signed items includes a TLS from Justice Harold H. Burton, on Supreme Court Stationery, dated February 9, 1954, which reads, in part: “In response to your request, I am enclosing a copy of a brief statement which I wrote relative to the history of the site of our Supreme Court Building which you may find of interest. It is called The Story of the Place - - Where First and A Streets Formerly Met at What is Now the Site of the Supreme Court Building,”; another TLS on Supreme court stationery is from John M. Harlan, in compliance with an autograph request. The remainder of the signatures are on 5 x 3 white pages and include: Robert H. Jackson; Louis D. Brandeis, Charles E. Hughes, Pierce Butler, J.C. McReynolds (Supreme Court card), Sherman Minton, Tom C. Clark (2), Wm. O. Douglas, Stanley Reed, Hugo L. Black, Harold H. Burton, George Sutherland (2), Willis Van Devanter, Harlan F. Stone, Potter Stewart (2), Charles E. Whittaker, Earl Warren (on a Supreme Court card), William J. Brennan, Jr. (2) and Felix Frankfurter. Most are dated mid-1950s, and are inscribed. In overall fine condition, with the collector’s typed notation to most, punch holes to left edge of most pages, occasional bit of adhesive residue. R&R COA.
