Description

“The Bill of Rights was never intended to be a suicide pact”

TLS signed “Jerry Ford,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Congress of the United States, Office of the Minority Leader letterhead, November 30, 1967. In part: “I can assure you that I have always supported the House Committee on Un-American Activities and those legislative measures which would strengthen the hand of our government in its fight against the communist conspirators. American people have the right to know about the communist organization and those members which would destroy the very Constitution…But as you know, former Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson said so appropriately that the Bill of Rights was never intended to be a suicide pact.” In fine condition, with portion of the signature on a horizontal fold, small area of trivial soiling. R&R COA.
