Baltimore lawyer who was inspired to write The Star Spangled Banner after he witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British in 1814. Handwritten DS, signed “F. S. Key for Pltff,” one page, 8 x 12.25, December 1, 1803. Handwritten legal document, written by Key as an attorney for the plaintiff. Key files a suit with the County Court to collect monies due his client. Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Key and signed again in the text “F. S. Key.” Key also pens instructions to the court clerk on the docket, “Mr. Ritchie - File it & fill up blanks by the writ - yrs. F. S.
