Description

Polk’s right hand ‘woman’ complies with a request

She accompanied her husband to Washington whenever she could, and they soon won a place in its most select social circles. Constantly--but privately--Sarah was helping him with his speeches, copying his correspondence and giving him advice. Third person ALS, one page, 4.25 x 7.25, November 27, 1890. Brief letter to a collector. In full, “Mrs. James K. Polk sends at your request the enclosed autograph.” Adding “Polk Place, Nashville, Tenn,” along the bottom. Letter is affixed to an identical size piece of heavier stock. In fine condition, with two light horizontal mailing folds, and six spots of light toning from adhesive on reverse. R&R COA.
