His vote broke the tie in the Pennsylvania delegations independence vote and he was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence. DS, signed “John Morton, Speaker,” nineteen pages, 8 x 12.5, November 23, 1775. Lengthy legal document regarding several “languishing” prisoners in jails in Philadelphia and Northumberland Counties, signing over their respective effects to repay their debts as an act of relief. Signed in the last page in black ink by Morton, and also signed on the front page in black ink by noted Pennsylvania lieutenant governor John Penn. In very good condition, with fragile pages still bound by ribbon (with the exception of first page), tape and paper reinforcement to last page, scattered toning and soiling and relatively intact paper seal still attached.
