Envelope panel signed in ink, “J. Q. Adams,” 5 x 3, with a Washington City postmark for October 1, 1817. The envelope is addressed in the hand of Adams’ wife, future First Lady Louisa C. Adams; the addressee, “Master Charles Adams,” was the couple’s preteen son. The franking signature at upper right, “Mrs. L. C. Adams,” though contemporary to the other writing, is evidently secretarial. In very good condition, with folds, toning (slightly more prominent along folds), a few small spots, and corner chips, no faults affecting Adams’ signature. R&R COA.
