Description

Ike oversees the papers of his Special Assistant, who was primarily in charge of Cold War planning and psycological warfare, assuring his widow that “I am inclined toward keeping the location of files in a minimum number of repositories”

TLS, one page, 7 x 9.5, personal letterhead, June 20, 1967. Eisenhower writes to the widow of Charles Douglas Jackson, assuring her that his papers will be studied and looked after. In part, “Dr. Wickman…would arrange to service and process the entire collection providing staff and making recommendations as to the most likely disposition of various categories. My personal thoughts are primarily concerned for the future authorized researchers and, therefore, I am inclined toward keeping the location of files in a minimum number of repositories.” C.D. Jackson served as Special Assistant to President Dwight D. Eisenhower from February 16, 1953, to March 31, 1954. According to the Eisenhower Library files in Abilene, Kansas, C.D. Jackson's "area responsibility was loosely defined as international affairs, cold war planning, and psychological warfare. His main function was the coordination of activities aimed at interpreting world situations to the best advantage of the United States and her allies and exploiting incidents which reflected negatively on the Soviet Union, Communist China and other enemies in the Cold War." Double matted and framed with an engraved portrait of Eisenhower, to an overall size of 20.5 x 16. In fine condition, with expected folds and a ballpoint notation to top left. R&R COA.
