DS, signed “Th: Jefferson,” one page, 8.25 x 6.25, June 28, 1780. Governor Jefferson appoints Isaac Coles to the position of Sheriff of Halifax County. Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Jefferson, with the red wax Virginia seal at the left edge, showing Lady Liberty in a bonnet and brandishing a sword. In very good condition, with scattered light toning and foxing, several previous folds, red wax seal cracked, but mostly intact and a couple small edge tears. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
