Declaration signer Ellery signed ship’s manifest

Active in the Rhode Island Sons of Liberty, he was sent to the Continental Congress in 1776 to replace Samuel Ward, who had died. He was immediately appointed to the Marine committee and later participated in several others including the committee for foreign relations. DS, signed “Wm. Ellery Coll.,” one page both sides, 8 x 13, August 29, 1796. Customs collection form and cargo manifest for the sloop Clementia and its Master, Michael Anthony, en route from Providence to New York City, signed at the conclusion in black ink by Ellery as collector. In very good condition, with document having been professionally inlaid to a slightly larger sheet, moderate storage folds, water stain along top edge and light overall toning.
