Description

Once a catcher, but made his mark as a manager. After a stint at the helm of Pittsburgh, he assumed control of the Philadelphia Athletics in 1901 and continued for 50 years until retirement at the age of 88. Mack is best remembered as a dignified, scorecard-waving leader in a business suit, who won five World Series crowns and built two dynasties. ALS, one page, 5.5 x 3.25 one cent government postcard, postmarked March 8, 1943, no date. Short letter of response to an aspiring young player. In full, “Pleased to know you are interested in baseball, hope to have you on our club some day.” In fine condition, with light overall toning and bold text and signature.
