Mother of President Eisenhower. A lot of three ALSs written on lined paper during WWII. One letter discusses the death of Roy (Ike’s brother) and the death of Ike’s father and how much it has affected her health; her loneliness; reading the Watch Tower; and “how the war will be strainted [sic] out not by men, but by God. We are looking for Armageddon to straiten [sic] out the goverment [sic].” Accompanied by two of the three mailing envelopes, also in Mrs. Eisenhower’s hand. In fine condition, with some show through from writing on both sides, occasional crease. Excellent content and historic significance relating to President Eisenhower’s mother’s state of mind during a period when General Eisenhower could not visit very often and was not even able to attend his father’s funeral. Eisenhower later hired Ollie Sexton, the recipient of these letters, to take care of his mother during the war. What is interesting and perhaps ironic was that his family's religious heritage did not support his profession; his parents, and in particular his mother, were devoted pacifists. R&R COA.
