“I knew that you had taken refuge in one of the more inaccessible corners of this island”

Poet; he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1948. TLS, one page, 7 x 8, Faber and Faber Ltd. letterhead, London, August 30, 1948. Eliot attempts to arrange a meeting with a Dunstan Thomas, Esq. In part: “I was glad to get your delightful long letter. I knew that you had taken refuge in one of the more inaccessible corners of this island, so it is a pleasure to know that you are likely to come to London. But your letter which arrived while I was away is dated the 28th July, and I am wondering whether you have come and gone.” Two corner creases and bisecting mailing folds, otherwise condition is fine. Accompanied by a nice book photo suitable for matting. R&R COA.
