Huge lot of over one hundred-fifty signed items of German Knight’s Cross winners. These items were in reply to a collector’s request for an autographed photo and questionnaire in Springfield, Illinois, in 1988. The collector asks each for his rank, military units, had he ever met Hitler, Himmler, Goering, Rommel, where had he been stationed when Hitler committed suicide, and, had the recipient ever been to South America and is there a group of former Third Reich military officers living there? Fritz Bachmaier’s reply reads, in part: “During WWII I in Geg. Jag. Regiment 100, 5 Geb. Division; Hitler I have seen before WWII in Munich, when he opened the House of Art; when Hitler killed himself I was on the way for a course for leaders of a regiment in Germany…Here I was present when Bad Reichenhall was delivered to the Americans; I never was in South America and do not know from German officers there.” Obviously, several have replied in German. This archive may provide some excellent research material. Some of the envelopes include replies, some contain photos, some contain both. The lot includes: N. von Diest-Koerber, Cremer Thursby, Werner Canders, H. Bastian, Ernst Borngen, Erich Becker, Fritz Darges, Vokhard Eitner, Alfred Hempel, Hans Kunert, Norbert Kujacinski, Hans Joachim Hunger, Dedo von Krosigk, Max Kurze, Gerhard Hein, Wolfgang Everling, Frank Neubert, Bernhard Imminger, Heinz Guderian, Gerhard Gutmacher, Hans-Joachim Jabs, Otto Doser, Wolfgang Darius, Friedrich Anding, Josef Hallekamp, Ernst Schmuck-Barkmann, Bruno Kahl, Heinz Marquardt, Otto Kumm and many more.
