Description

Got To Give It Up: Marvin Gaye writes five checks

Talented singer/songwriter whose music reflected an uncommon social awareness; he was shot to death by his father in 1984. Lot of five checks, each signed “Marvin P. Gaye, Jr.” and all dated between January 19, 1977 and October 29, 1979. Three of the checks have also been filled out by the singer. The memo sections of the checks are noteworthy, with the remarks reading “Property,” “Loan Repayment,” and “Loan.” One check is payable to artist/sculptor Eric Kaposta, another check is payable to his mother, Alberta Gay (the original spelling of the family name) with the memo “Loan repayment.” In overall very good condition, with usual bank stamps and cancellation holes affecting portions of three signatures and a vertical crease through one signature. R&R COA.
