Signed book: As We Remember Joe. Edited by John F. Kennedy. Cambridge: University Press, 1945. Hardcover, 6.25 x 9.25, 75 pages. Signed and inscribed in black felt tip “To Barry Goldman - My Best, Ted Kennedy” and “To Barry Goldman, all the best, Joe Kennedy.” This book was privately printed and edited by JFK in memory of his brother Joseph Kennedy, who died in WWII. It was compiled primarily as a way of helping Joe Sr. deal with the death of his eldest son and was intended for distribution to the family only. The book includes a collection of essays written about Joe by his friends and family, photographs of Joe before and during the war, a letter written by Joe to the editor of the Atlantic which describes the destruction in Valencia, Spain, and an excerpt from a letter written by one of Joe’s comrades in arms and the last to see him alive. In fine condition, with some light rubbing to covers and a small pencil notation to first free end page. A rarely encountered and truly heart-rending tribute. R&R COA.
