Bandleader and composer nicknamed “The March King.” A brilliant man who sought to reach a mass audience through his music, he formed his own band in 1892 and carefully selected the music to include in his band’s repertoire. Vintage sepia matte-finish 8 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To M. P. Van Arbodalen from John Philip Sousa, March 1917.” In very good condition, with silvering to edges and background, mounting remnants along top edge, repaired corner tear to lower right and some mild toning to borders.
