ALS signed “John Q. Adams,” one page, 7.75 x 9.5, March 25, 1800. Adams writes to the American Consulate in Hamburg from Berlin. In full, “I have informed the Spanish Minister of the offers in your favour of the 18th inst which are fully satisfactory to him and which he may profess to profit by as soon as he can give the orders for transportation of the produce from the Havannah to the United States - At present however he wishes to have a sum to the amount of about five hundred pounds sterling paid to a person whom he shall designate at Philadelphia, as an advance, upon the credit of produce which he will direct to be sent there - He is willing to make the proper allowance in consideration of its being an advance, and wishes to know whether you can accommodate him in this particular too, and upon what terms.” Second integral page bears an address panel to the diplomat, addressed in another hand. In very good condition, with heavy staining to lower half of page, affecting appearance but not legibility of text, expected folds, scattered creasing and wrinkling and small area of paper loss to top edge from wax seal.
