Description

Seven handwritten letters from Jackie, with references to John Jr., Caroline and JFK: “I know there should be nothing but harmony on the planet now that it has been John's 75th birthday. But anything you would like to do, I'm with you.”

Lot of seven ALSs on 14 total pages from Jackie Kennedy to John and Rosemond Russell. Exquisite personal and art related content and some very revealing verbiage included about JFK. All seven of the letters were written on Jackie's personal blue 1040 Fifth Avenue stationery and note cards. One of the letters dated Dec. 29, 1980, reads in part, "Dear John and Rosamond - I started Letters to Christopher on Christmas night - and now, in the country, I have read it through twice. You can't imagine how moved I am by it. The spirit of that Extraordinary man - you wish that all the world would read some of its passages now - at this time of year when you think on all he has lived by and it all seems once again so precious." Another notecard written 4 months before she passed away on Jan. 23, 1994, reads, "Dear Rosamond, I have kept your gallant note on my bedside table since it arrived. It covers the white cards in those little Mediterranean shop telephone message boxes. Today, as I put it back, I realized I'd forgotten what it said - and so I read it. Interesting. When I think of the condition you were in when you wrote it, your cheerful Philip quote, I become angry. I know there should be nothing but harmony on the planet now that it has been John's 75th birthday. But anything you would like to do, I'm with you. Have you ever heard of leaking things? It is yours to keep with love, Jackie." Another undated (postmarked, Jan. 1979) letter from Jackie shows her adoration for Rosamond recalling an evening they spent together celebrating Rosamond's husband's birthday. "I will always remember the end of the evening, on your street, you still in the bus signing pledges on your knee to Fantastic Tours, and John against a gray sky and bare tree holding enough balloons to carry him off through the clouds, with a great beaming smile on his lovable face. You live in New York as if it were Paris . . . Someone will be giving a lecture about you at the Metropolitan Museum 50 years from now. Maybe Caroline will hear it, but I am glad I know the original." Rosamond and Jackie often discussed art as exhibited in an undated letter, "John said you were doing research for a lecture on Gardens and Art - This is Flowers and Art - an exhibition I saw at the British Museum - but maybe it will yield a tiny idea. Did you know those marvelous books John Harris (head of RIBA) did - paintings at English Country houses and gardens - a Garden Alphabet are gardens at delight, the paintings at Thomas Robins the Elder . . . That year at the garden in London produced such great exhibitions." In fine condition. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
