German admiral who commanded the German navy during WWII, and who executed the surrender to the Allies on May 7, 1945. He was later sentenced at Nuremberg to 10 years imprisonment for war crimes. Lot of five items includes: a souvenir typescript of the “Radio Broadcast to the German People by Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz, Ploen Germany, May 1, 1945,” signed “Dönitz, 28-6-74” in blue ink; a TLS on personal letterhead in untranslated German, dated April 3, 1965; a souvenir typescript “Instrument of Surrender of all German Forces to General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces, and to the Soviet High Command, Rheims, May 7, 1945,” signed by Dönitz and adding a brief note in German, and dating it April 8, 1978; a nine-page typed manuscript entitled “Wolf-Pack Tactics,” boldly signed “Dönitz” on the last page; a typed fifteen-page unsigned resume, of sorts, entitled “My Tasks as Commander-In-Chief 1943-45.” In fine condition.
