General Washington discharges a Revolutionary soldier

DS, signed “G. Washington,” one page, 8 x 13, June 8, 1783. Military discharge for a soldier signed by General George Washington. Document reads, “By His Excellency George Washington, Esq., General and Commander in Chief of the Forces of the United States of America. These are to certify that the Bearer hereof Albert Van Orden, Private in the 5th N York Regiment, having faithfully served the United States seven years and three months and being enlisted for the War only, is hereby discharged from the American Army.” Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Washington and countersigned by J[ohn] Trumbell, Jr. Double cloth matted and framed with a handsome engraved full-length portrait of Washington, to an overall size of 22 x 22. In very good condition, with large Washington signature, moderate document folds, with a few small areas of paper loss along folds, light toning to document, one document directly under Washington’s signature and some scattered edge wear.
