ALS signed “Henry Limpert,” one page both sides, 8 x 12, May 3, 1861. Poorly written letter to a friend. In part (with uncorrected spelling and grammar), “I think that times is pretty ruff for I cane hear the cannons rore moste every day and acoming for solgers to the fend him self ate washington. yew still have said these slaves holders should have athrashinge now is you time to pitch in. I am for the hole union. I am for the starts and strips. I believe that all the ceceding states should have a thrashing.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
