Best known as Boss Tweed. He gained absolute power of Tammany Hall and became the head of a group of politicians known as the Tweed Ring, which gained control of New York City finances and swindled the treasury of between 20 and 200 million dollars, before being exposed. Lot of two items includes: a City of New York appropriations document dated September 22, 1868 and signed “W.M. Tweed” as Deputy Street Commissioner; and, a Salaries Judiciary voucher dated February 28, 1871 and signed by two of Tweed’s henchmen, Richard B. Connolly (city comptroller) and A. Oakey Hall (mayor). Both in fine condition, with expected age and handling wear, a few staple hles to the appropriation sheet. R&R COA.
