Facing surgery, Clara Bow keeps her sense of humor, “Sorry your train ride was so boring - I thought that young sailor might liven things up for you - but on second thought he seemed almost dead with sleep.”

ALS signed “Clara,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, July 26, 1945. Letter to her friend who just visited, Bow reveals some of her medical problems. In part, “The doctor is afraid I am going to have to undergo an operation…I told you about my ovaries not functioning correctly for a long time - well they are now swollen three times the normal size and I suffer bad cramps most of the time…so Dr. says if the condition don’t clear up soon he will have to remove the ovaries…Sorry your train ride was so boring - I thought that young sailor might liven things up for you - but on second thought he seemed almost dead with sleep.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Bow’s hand. In fine condition, with bisecting horizontal fold, small tear along spine of pages and light toning. R&R COA.
