Stagecoach bandit nicknamed “Black Bart.” A dapper and polite man who successfully robbed dozens of stagecoaches. “Black Bart” was finally captured in 1883 and served five years in San Quentin. After serving his term he was never heard from again. Exceedingly rare ink signature, “Charles E. Boles,” on an off-white 2.25 x .5 lined slip. Consignor notes signature was removed from a September 1864 receipt for military stores for Company B, 116th Illinois Infantry. Boles signed as First Sergeant, witnessing the other signatures. In fine condition. R&R COA.
