Description

One of the most popular child actors in film history, he was offered the title role in David Copperfield by MGM. This film made him an overnight star and he went on to appear in such classics as Anna Karenina; Little Lord Fauntleroy; and Captains Courageous. After a tour of duty with the Air Force in World War II, his film career faded. In 1954, he began working for an advertising agency and is said to have remarked that the millions he had earned as a child had been spent largely on lawsuits, one of which involved a widely-covered trial in 1937 between his parents and his aunt for his custody. Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 portrait of the young actor, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Raol [sic] Le Mat, Best Wishes, Freddie Bartholomew.” In fine condition, with stray ink smudge towards right border, a couple of corner bends, a couple of mild creases. R&R COA.
