Cather, the author of One of Ours, responds to a letter: “What you tell me about the death rate-suicide rate - among ex-soldiers is terribly wrong.”

One of the most important American novelists of the first half of the 20th century. Won the Pulitzer in 1922 for her novel, One of Ours; wrote My Antonia, etc. ALS, one page, 5.5 x 6.5, Shattuck Inn letterhead, October 16. Letter to a gentleman. In full, “I want to thank you for your friendly note. What you tell me about the death rate-suicide rate - among ex-soldiers is terribly wrong. But how could it be otherwise? The ‘Afterward’ has been disillusioning enough for all of us.” Cather wrote about World War I in One Of Ours, for which she won the 1922 Pulitzer Prize.
