Description

Confederate Major General, known as “Fightin’ Joe,” he harassed Sherman’s Georgia campaign all the way to Raleigh. LS, one page, 8 x 10, House of Representatives U. S. letterhead, June 15, 1888. In a letter to General John Rather, Wheeler writes in part: “…I trust it is not necessary for me to say that your recommendation must have great weight with me in all matters of this kind. There will be no change made in the office until October, and I shall therefore have the opportunity to talk the matter over with you personally before it is necessary to take action in the matter.” In fine condition, with the usual letter folds, slight edge toning and small areas of paper loss along edges.
