Description

Intricate hand-penned and signed musical lullaby

Norwegian composer who based his work on traditional national folk music. After some years teaching and conducting in Christiania, the success of his incidental music for Ibsen's Peer Gynt (1876), and a state pension, enabled him to settle near Bergen. AMQS on a 7 x 4 off-white sheet. Grieg pens four double bars of music, indicating tempo markings and identifies “Berceuse” meaning Lullaby. Signed at the top “Edvard Grieg,” and along the bottom “Bergen, Norway 28 Aug. 1876.” In fine condition, with a central vertical fold and a few trivial wrinkles. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
