McKinley thanks New York governor Levi Morton; ironically a year later they would battle for the presidential nomination

LS signed “W. McKinley,” one page, 5.5 x 7, February 26, 1895. Letter to New York Governor Levi Morton, thanking him for his recent courtesy. McKinley and Morton would face off the following year for the Presidential nomination. In part, “Upon my return from a trip northward, I take the earliest opportunity to give formal expression to my high appreciation for your many personal courtesies toward me on the occasion of my recent visit to Albany.” In fine condition, with lightly trimmed top edge and a touch of light toning.
