Greeley humbly resigns himself to signing: “I am not one of ‘the distinguished men of the country’ and I hate the autograph mania”

Founder of the New York Tribune, famous for his advice to “Go West, young man!” ALS, one page, 7.75 x 3.25, no date. Greeley responds to an autograph request. In full, “I am not one of ‘the distinguished men of the country’ and I hate the autograph mania, but I am nevertheless willing to subscribe myself.” Framed with a handwritten testimonial, done in another hand, to an overall size of 9.25 x 11.5. In very good condition, with some light toning, several small notations along bottom and a small photo affixed to right edge. R&R COA.
