Confederate general who distinguished himself at Bull Run, Fredericksburg, and Chickamauga. ALS, one page, 6.5 x 8.5, May 16, 1901. Letter to a fellow general, responding to an account of General Meade’s participation at Gettysburg. In part, “The account of Gettysburg…of Meade…I find it very interesting and I thank you for it. There is no doubt of of Genl. Meade’s marked ability as warrior and scholar. That he overcame Gen. Lee is sufficient guarantee of this, and I would …made a mistake on this field.” In fine condition, with expected folds, small splitting along the end of one fold, and end of signature a bit cramped.
