Partially printed original patent schematic, 20.5 x 16.5, submitted to the government of Peru, illustrating five electrical distribution systems related to his invention of the incandescent light, is beautifully signed in fountain pen “Thomas Alva Edison,” in the lower center of the page. Also signed by witnesses Charles E. Smith and George T. Pickney, and bears the notation “Lamina 8 Peru,” in another hand in the top right. Three hundred and sixty-five of Edison’s inventions, which altogether merited 1093 United States patents, were associated with electrical lighting and power distribution. Many of his creations were first patented overseas to ensure international ownership. Impressively cloth matted and framed by the Gallery of History, with a photo of Edison, a small biographical plaque and another plaque detailing the history of the patent application, to an overall size of 45.5 x 25. In fine condition, with a light horizontal crease to top right and some mild rippling in a couple places, none affecting amazing signature of Edison. This is the first full signature of Edison we have ever seen, and the fact it is on an electrical distribution schematic, places this item at the top of an Edison collector’s wish list.
