Description

Otto Frank frankly irritated by artistic liberties taken in the film version of The Diary of Anne Frank: “The writers of the script had to invent some details to give the film more tension...I advise you to read the Diary again…[your grandmother] surely told you a lot about the sufferings of the Jews during the Hitler period”

Father of diarist Anne Frank and the only member of her family to survive the concentration camps. TLS, one page, 5.75 x 8.25, June 19, 1971. Frank explains certain differences between Anne Frank’s diary and the film based upon her experiences. In part, “As you have just seen the film, you think that everything in it is historical. But this is not the case. The writers of the script had to invent some details to give the film more tension. One of them is the ringing of the telephone before we were arrested. I advise you to read the Diary again…It is very sad that you lost your grandmother just recently…She surely told you a lot about the sufferings of the Jews during the Hitler period.” In fine condition, with expected mailing folds.
