Scarce Combination of Signatures

Explorer. He was a junior officer in Scott's National Antarctic Expedition, and nearly reached the South Pole in his own expedition of 1909. In 1915 his ship Endurance was crushed in the ice, and he and five others made a perilous journey of 1300 miles to bring relief for the crew. Knighted in 1909, he died at South Georgia during a fourth expedition. Fountain pen signature, “E.H. Shackleton,” on a a lightly lined 4 x 3 slip affixed to a 5 x 6.25 pale yellow page. The page is also signed by both G. Hubert Wilkins and John Cope. Wilkins served on Shackleton’s Quest expedition of 1922 (both Wilkins and Cope led an expedition to Antarctica in 1920-1921). A six inch length of red ribbon with white and blue edging is affixed to the page. In fine condition, with areas of scattered toning to Shackleton’s slip, adhesive residue and show through.
