ALS signed “Helen A. Keller,” one page, 5 x 8, January 28. Familiarity with her signature styles at various stages in her life indicates the year of the letter to be 1889, at which point Keller would have been just eight and a half years old! Letter to her childhood playmate Maud MacKnight Lindsay who would remain her lifelong friend. In full, “I shall be very happy to have you come to my party Saturday afternoon from 1 to 5 o’clock.” The day in the text has been changed and the date at the bottom has been added, both in another hand. Lindsay went on to become a pioneer in free kindergartens and published sixteen books for children. In very good condition, with scattered toning and soiling, partial separation along horizontal fold and several pencil notations to borders. R&R COA.
