One of Japan's most skilled fliers, he commanded the air attack against Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and was the last to leave the battle area. He unsuccessfully tried to persuade his superiors to launch a second attack against Pearl Harbor. After the war Fuchida converted to Christianity and became a nondenominational preacher, traveling frequently to America; in 1966 he became a US citizen. Two page pamphlet entitled From Pearl Harbor To Calvary, signed and inscribed “To Mr. Richard Calou: Capt. Mitsuo Fuchida, Luke 23:34;” he also signs his name in Japanese characters.
