Description

War dated Patton letter with great content “It looks now as if the pack headed by the 3rd Army was racing for the kill.”

TLS signed “George,” one page, 8 x 10, Headquarters, Third United States Army letterhead, April 24, 1945. Letter is addressed to Major General Kenyon A. Joyce of San Francisco. In full, the letter reads, "My dear Kenyon: After my little joke with the antediluvian weapon, I thought I had better make amends, so this morning I sent you a P-32 pistol which is very popular here, although it is not comparable to either the Remington or the Colt. However it is a nice toy to add to your collection. We captured a place that had quite a few of them in it. I have always been very fond of Wilbur, but I did not know he was a fisherman. He is one of the best men in a fight and one of the worse out that I know of. He damn near drove me crazy in Morocco, but was largely responsible for our getting ashore. He was intended to be a sort of Martin Luther, dying perpetually for an ideal. Have you met his wife? If not, take my hint and do so. It looks now as if the pack headed by the 3rd Army was racing for the kill. One of the divisions, the 11th Armored, went 24 miles today, and your old regiment, the 3rd Calvary, practically alone, advanced from Nuremburg to the bend of the Danube River. Young Jimmy Polk who commands it is doing a wonderful job. With affectionate regards to Helen." Then Patton writes at the bottom, "P.S. I will have the pistol sent express C.O.D. from N.Y. I will repay you someday." Accompanied by a Third Army military patch. In fine condition, with some light wrinkling, expected mailing folds and a light shade of toning. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
