Description

“The white race will only go if it is the weaker, and then it will go away.”

TLS, one page, 6 x 7, Val-Kill Cottage letterhead, October 26, 1959. Letter of response attempting to clarify previous comments. In full, “I fear you will not find the Negro problem any greater in the North than in the South. One could have a mulatto grandchild, as you call it, if a child married an Italian, a Spaniard, a Moroccan, a Negro, etc. Do you object? The white race will only go if it is the weaker, and then it will go away. I fear you do not understand my point of view, and we cannot reach an agreement.” In fine condition. R&R COA.
