“These frills that I have have never been to a show, there are four of them...that I believe would get in the money”

The Birdman of Alcatraz. TLS signed in pencil, two pages, 8.5 x 11, May 10, 1935. Letter, written from Leavenworth, to a fellow bird enthusiast and breeder. Stroud touched on many bird topics from breeding to importing rare birds. In part, “I am interested in what you say about those red birds…the only information I have that I consider worthy of belief is from the articles of Bruno Martin, the German who was the first to produce the red canary.” In very good condition, with light overall toning, staple holes to top corner, scattered light soiling and several pencil notations in another hand.
