“Please forgive my silence. I feel as if I am drowning in weariness and work.”

Missionary doctor, theologian, philosopher, and Nobel Peace Prize winner. ALS in French, one page both sides, 8.25 x 10.5, January 29, 1933. Letter to a Mr. Bartlett. In part, “Please don’t think too badly of me. Hundreds of letters have lain unanswered…because I have not the energy to keep up with my correspondence. Please forgive my silence. I feel as if I am drowning in weariness and work…When I can, I will write you one or two pages on the problems of leading a truly Christian life in this day and age…My energies are insufficient for all that I should be doing.” In fine condition, with a couple small tape reinforcements to horizontal fold, a few spots of light toning and a stamp to top right corner.
